Poppy meets Belle

I would have to say that my single most consumerist weakness has got to be the Disney Princesses. Yes, I have heard of the “Princess Effect” and how it is damaging our daughters’ senses of entitlement and self-image. (You haven’t heard of this effect? Check here and here!)

But let me tell you something; if you have ever sung Part of Your World at the top of your lungs in a backyard swimming pool while carefully laying your fanned hair on the pool deck, then you know what I mean when I say that Princesses are here to stay. Belle is one of my particular favorites of the Disney Princess empire because she is actually a great heroine. SHE rescues the PRINCE. C’mon now women of the world, can I get an AMEN!

My aunt Robin and little cousin Kate made a recent trip to the Land of Disney and brought back Poppy’s very first entitlement-effect baby doll. We love it to bits. Poppy has since refused any other toy this morning. I think we have what is called a Princess-meets-Princess love affair.

Ha Ha!! Dave wants Bella to like Belle best also — her loyalty to her father…
she is all around a good news princess…

I think Belle is my favorite princess too, although I think I can really love all the princesses in turn. I watched all the movies growing up, and sang “part of your world” on the beach, and “a dream is a wish your heart makes” while cleaning up my room with my sister. And I can do a mean Angela Lansbury singing “tale as old as time”! Oh to be 7 again.
