Poppy Anne is 18 months old tomorrow. Time to celebrate! Everybody throw a wicked tantrum! And then totally make up for it by acting super cute and giving eskimo kisses to your Mama.
Poppy colors with crayons now, she makes kick-butt sticker collages, she loves to sing into her microphone, she dances and twirls, she can spot anything Elmo from miles away, she laughs hard, she cries hard, she is just a super-fantastic-maniac these days. Eighteen months is a milestone I never thought much about reaching, but now that we are here, I can hardly believe it. Poppy is a full-on toddler. And it’s true what they say. The fall-on-the-floor-screaming tantrums are at their peak. The energy abounds. The will is strong. But you know what else? The kisses become voluntary. The hugs and snuggles mean something. And the joy that she is experiencing in her world radiates right to my heart on a daily basis. It’s awesome.

I know I haven’t been posting lately. It’s for a lot of reasons, really. Reasons I can’t get into right now. A sort of strange existential crisis? Family crisis? Personal crisis? Chasing a toddler? Tiring of winter? Feeling blah? Yes. Yes. And yes.
Oh and also, Poppy is doing this now, so I find escaping to open my computer really hard to do these days.
I hope to return soon. I have a lot of writing I’d like to be doing right now. It’s just finding the oomph to do it. Spring, come quickly!
There are six days left until Poppy turns ONE and the tears have already been flowing over here. Mine, not hers. I love this little girl and I love who she is becoming right before my eyes. What an amazing year. She has enriched my life in more ways than I can ever say.
More music from me to you on this cold January day. Both are very good for soothing small children to sleep, for what it’s worth. Also, they are beautiful pieces of choreography in my head.
We had a wonderful weekend with family and friends giving thanks, making first memories with Poppy, eating good food, looking at old pictures, listening to a fart application on the iPhone, playing games with new friends, and getting some much needed work done on our new house. I raked our front yard on Saturday! OUR yard. Which I raked. I’ve never even used a rake before, people.
There are so many special moments I would like to share for today’s Weekend Moment, but honestly, the one I will remember forever and always is waking up on Thanksgiving day to watch the Macy’s parade with my own little family. Just the three of us, snuggling up together on the couch on Thanksgiving morning to watch the floats and marching bands. Poppy soaked it all in and especially loved watching the Rockettes perform. This girl has got some aspirations.
See what I mean? My especially favorite part of this video is the one-eye-reveal followed by the other-eye-reveal. Oh, and her delightful post-game squeal. She cheers for herself every time. She’s a genius.
We have a wedding to go to on Saturday, and I don’t have a new outfit to wear, so I’m thinking of doing something new and CARAZY with my hair instead. Like maybe a faux hawk?
Yes, a faux hawk.
Oh, and also, this video has been viral on the Internets for a while now, but in case you haven’t seen it, it is hilarious. Real, real hilarious.
Rocking out to the new Paramore album all day is helping Poppy and me feel a lot less like snot monsters and a lot more like hardcore rock stars. I wish you were all here to see my amazingly sweet punk rock slide entrance into the kitchen. I may or may not use a rolling pin as a microphone.
