Tomorrow, Crawling… Next Week, The World!

Doing the MOM THING for the first time around, I am super amazed at how fast my baby is growing up. She is literally learning something new all the time. One day she doesn’t know how to sit up by herself, the next day she does. One day she can’t get the Cheerio in her mouth, the next day she totally can. It’s amazing to watch her absorb everything around her. I can’t believe how capable babies are of soaking in their environments. Poppy is constantly on the lookout for her favorite things and people. She can be in a room full of baby toys and interesting people, but I guarantee you she will search out and find that one piece of banana that dropped on the floor. And then devour it with her baby fangs of death.

Poppy’s newest challenge has been crawling. She can move forward, backward and side-to-side by scooting along the floor on her belly. Jacob’s been showing her how to get on her knees to make it easier, but she just thinks it’s an hilarious attempt at making her laugh.

[Sorry the posting around here has been sporadic of late. I am working on a personal project - more details coming soon! Until then, follow me on Twitter for all the latest and greatest details of my day. Yes, that's right. ALL THE JUICY DETAILS.]

Please keep me away from high school boys

If I hear about one more person returning to school this week, I might pull out my hair! I am so jealous of all them youngins going back to school. Poppy and I went for a walk yesterday and passed the neighborhood private boys’ school. The place looks like Hogwarts as far as I’m concerned. As I smelled the crisp back-to-school air and watched the boys flocking together in the courtyard all pressed in their sport coats and ties, I kind of just wanted to run up to one of them – hug him – and tell him that school is where it’s at! (And also, I kind of wanted to ask one of those high school boys if any of them thought there was a chance I was still hot. Like maybe even just a little. Or not so much toting this baby around and wearing my sweatpants with the dried peas on them?)

It’s not all bad being done with my education. I mean, I have enough students loans to share if anyone wants them. Soon enough Poppy will be ready for preschool and then we can splurge and all sorts of Hello Kitty pencil cases, notebook covers, tiny erasers and bedazzled lunchboxes. (Don’t worry, Poppy will be well equipped with some anti-nerd paraphernalia as well, or at least a great sense of humor)

Since I am not celebrating a return to school this year, let’s enjoy this ridiculous video of Poppy learning how to use a straw.

Fun Friday

Come on. Did you have this much fun today?

Six months ago today, she started. Hello, I love you.

Poppy Anne

Poppy Anne

Happy halvsies, sweet Poppy! You are six months old today. You survived your glamor shots yesterday and even decided to learn a new trick today – standing up all by yourself while holding onto the couch. Uh oh. Luckily, it seems you still prefer to lay on the floor and eat carpet fuzz for now. You are more beautiful to me than you were yesterday and the day before and the day before. Will it ever stop, my gorgeous girl? Happy halvsies to you! May the next six months be as great as these have been. I love you!

Really, what title can I give this post that doesn’t insult the chicken?

The latest and greatest Poppy montage!

Boom!

My favorite part of this video is seeing the fireworks light up the faces of my two buddies.

Because there’s always something to laugh about

Happy weekend, everybody!

An update and a video

*Update: Last night, without Poppy in the room, Jacob and I snuggled in bed and watched a movie. With the volume turned ALL THE WAY UP. I remember what things used to be like, and I love it.

And sorry for the poor picture quality, but the audio on this video is freaking fantastic:

We’re doin’ business here

I found these hysterically funny videos from Trigon Insurance. Seriously, they are so funny. I wonder where these kids will be in thirty years? The YouTubers Anonymous Support Group for Exploited Children.

Kittens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our dear friend Kristin whipped this little video out on her phone yesterday, and I have since ceased to pay attention to the needs of anyone/anything else around me while I watch it over and over and over.

Good times! Hell yes!

Sunday excursion.

Yesterday evening our little clan headed out to the National Park for a stroll. Daddy and Mommy holding hands and Poppy snuggled in her Ergo. We only lasted about 45 minutes before the peasant revolted, but it was a lovely time walking along the O&E Canal. The evening was topped off by a Mandy Patinkin does Sondheim sing-along. I just love my family.

Dominating the jumper

A few weeks ago I thoroughly embarrassed my daughter by displaying her lack of jumper skills. I hope her stellar performance here makes up for it.
